Beginning Drawing (or Drawing 101) with Averyl Veliz
Saturdays, May 19th—June 9th, 10 am - 12 pm (4 weeks)

Learn basic drawing techniques including: shape, composition, establishing a focal point, perspective, light, shadow, and color theory.  For new and experienced artists who want to explore technique. Ages 15 & up.

Landscape Watercolor with Averyl Veliz
Saturdays, May 19th—June 9th, 2 pm - 4 pm (4 weeks)

Watercolor Technique and Illustration: Students will explore the process and techniques of watercolor.  We will focus on atmospheric perspective, warm vs. cool, and establishing a focal point. If you have an idea of what you would like to paint, please bring photo reference with you to class. Ages 15 & up.

Costumed Figure Drawing with Averyl Veliz
Saturdays, June 14-30, 2:00-4:00pm

This class draws from clothed models in order to explore character, costume, and drapery.  We will be discussing anatomy, rhythm, and flow of both the human form and the costuming the model is wearing to best convey the character being acted out.  Class designed for teens and adults.

Stained Glass Sun Catchers with Joel Abbott
Thursdays, June 7-21, 5:30-8:30 (4 week)

Through this four week class, students will learn techniques for making sun catching glass arts to display in the summer light.  New to glass?  This is a great project to learn basic techniques.  Seasoned glass artist?  Apply your skills in a project ripe for summer gifting!

Needle Felting with Amy O’Neill Houck
Monday, June 18th 5:30-8:30 (1 week)

Learn to paint with wool as you combine colors in a needle-felted "drawing" of your favorite scene, landscape, flora, or fauna. We'll quickly master the technique of needle-felting wool roving and yarn to create a picture that's worthy of framing and hanging on your wall.  Come with a photo for inspiration.

Poetry & Painting for Kids with Maria Offer
Sunday, May 20th 12 pm - 2pm (1 week)

This one day workshop will draw on global poetry as an inspiration for chalk pastel drawings and crayon relief paintings.  Kids create art inspired by images they see in their chosen poem and learn about the ways in which written and visual arts inspire one another.  Ages 6 -11 welcome.  $25 (materials included)

Pacific Island Story and Art with Maria Thibodeau
Tuesday-Thursday, June 5-7, 9-12pm (3 Day)

Make sea life art as interpretations of the dramatized telling of Pacific Island stories.  This workshop will bring together story, culture, and art as inspiration for your best art creations.

Kids Wearable Art Workshop with Amanda Waid
Saturdays, June 16-July 7, 10-1pm (4 Week)

Wondering what to do with those old clothes, sheets, or forgotten crafts?  Bring them in as supplies for this kids repurposing project.  Kids learn how to make things new again and end up with a piece they’ll use in all their playtime storytelling.  Aimed at younger kids, ages 4-8 welcome.

Fine Arts Camp with Misty Ostrowski, Fumi Matsumoto, and Maria Thibodeau
Monday-Friday, June 25-29, 9am-12pm (5 Days)

“Parade of Species” Costume Making Events
Saturdays, June 9th and June 30th, 10am-1pm

Do you want to be in Discovery Southeast’s “Parade of Species” this 4th of July?  Come make a costume at the Canvas to join in this fun event.  Supplies will be provided to make junk into fantastical designs.  Have you ever seen an umbrella become a jellyfish, or old sweaters become an owl?  Get creative, then parade around in your original designs!
