Grids and Patterns with Tim Ortiz
Thursdays, May 28th - June 18th, 6:30 - 9:00pm (4 weeks)

Grids and patterns are a dynamic tool with incredible creative utility in a wide range of fields including fine art, architecture, design, and fashion. In this class, participants will learn how patterns work as design elements as well as how to create tessellations and seamlessly repeating patterns by engaging in projects that apply patterns to drawings, paintings, and ceramics. All materials included. $185 (plus tax)

Landscape Drawing with Andreana Donahue
Mondays, June 1st - 22nd, 6:30 - 9:00pm

This course will introduce materials and techniques for landscape drawing using graphite and pen and ink on paper. We'll focus on using a wide range of light and dark values and detail to create a dynamic composition. This class is perfect for beginners or anyone interested in expanding on their current knowledge of creating works on paper. All materials included. $160 (plus tax)

Saturday and Sunday, June 6th - 7th, 5pm – 8pm
Saturday and Sunday, June 20th – 21st, 9am - 12pm

In this two day workshop you create and bind your own handmade sketchbook for drawing and watercolor, and then carry it into the mountains for a lesson in plein air sketching and watercolor painting.  You will receive an in depth introduction to the craft of bookbinding, the exciting practice of painting from life, and a unique sketchbook that you may continue to fill throughout the summer. Materials provided. $80 (plus tax)

Every Saturday, take advantage of a purpose built still life or a live model in a studio setting to develop and maintain your drawing skills. Visiting artists Tim Ortiz and/or Andreana Donahue will be available for guidance and instruction.  Basic materials (graphite, charcoal, erasers and paper) will be provided, but please feel free to bring your personal materials. We invite you to stay after for Critique. $20 (plus tax)

Begins Saturday, May 23, 10am – 12pm with a still life, and a still life will be built every other Saturday. The following Saturday, May 30th will feature a live model, and a live model will be available every other Saturday.

Because discussion and criticism is essential to healthy creative communities The Canvas will be holding regular critiques open to local artists working in any medium. Critiques will be moderated by visiting artists Tim Ortiz and Andreana Donahue, and will provide an opportunity to show your work and get feedback from your fellow Juneau artists. FREE to anyone.

Wheel Throwing with Mercedes Munoz
Thursdays, April 30th - May 21st, 5:30pm-8:30pm (4 weeks)

This class will focus on the fundamentals of working at the potter’s wheel. Students will develop good techniques in centering clay and throwing. Though it is aimed at first time potters, this class is also appropriate for students looking to refine their skills. All materials are included in the price of the class. $175 (plus tax)

Missed a class?  A particular class not working with you schedule?  The Canvas is now offering classes for your group that fit your schedule.  Contact our Artistic Coordinator, Brandon Howard, at bhoward@reachak.org with how many are in your group and what you are interested in. If the Canvas can meet your needs, he will set you up with an experienced instructor and materials and a schedule that works for you.  We can do evening and weekend workshops, as well as classes that are single or multiple sessions.
