Kids’ Portraits
Tuesday Feb 21st and Wednesday Feb 22nd, 9am-noon

This multi medium two day kids’ workshop allows kids to explore faces! Try your hand (and your face!) at mask making and exploring portraits through collage. For youth ages 8 and up. $55 (materials included).

Soul Portraits with Kendra Schpok
Sundays, Feb 5th-26th,  10am-1pm (4 weeks)

If you could see your soul, what would it look like? We will take a journey to discover our soul’s desire, exploring the arc of your life over four weeks of painting, mixed media, or whatever medium whispers a personal truth to you.  All ability levels welcome. $125 (materials included).

Leaded Stained Glass Window

Sundays, Jan 15-Feb 12, 6-9pm (5 week)

Explore a variety of essential stained glass techniques in this beginner/intermediate class, including pattern making and design, glass cutting, soldering and finishing work.  Each student will leave with a 24” x 24” leaded stained glass panel. Students are encouraged to come with design ideas and photos of stained glass examples.  $275 (materials included).

Stone Setting

Mondays, Feb 13-27, 6-9pm (3 week)

This jewelry making class is for intermediate students who have experience with silver and base metals, and know the basics of soldering, sawing, filing, texture and riveting.  Move beyond the basics and learn stone setting in a variety of projects is this 3-week course.   $175 (materials included).

Beginning Jewelry

Mondays, Jan 9-30, 6-9pm (4 week)

Students will learn how to solder, saw, file, texture and rivet using silver and base metals.  Projects will include a silver ring, a pair of silver earrings and a simple pendant using the various techniques learned in the class.  $185 (materials included).

Soldering Small Sculpture

Saturday, Jan 21, 10am-1pm

Learn the basics of soldering and create your own small sculptural work of art. We’ll provide the solder and a variety of metal scraps to work with, but feel free to bring additional little bits of metal to incorporate into your one-of-a-kind mini sculpture. Teens welcome.  $65

Marimba

Marimba is a large xylophone-like instrument, steeped in the tradition of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. The music emphasizes community, beautiful polyrhythmic melodies and infectious rhythms that encourage participation by everyone, no matter what your musical experience. New and experienced musicians welcome.  Youth 9 and up welcome in Kids classes.

Mbira

January Class: Thursdays, Jan 5-26, 6-7:30pm (4 week)

The Mbira is a hand held instrument, played in many cultures throughout the world.  Learn a traditional Zimbabwean song and discover the joy of mbira .  $45

Color Theory
with Jackie Manning
Tuesdays, Jan 10-31, 6:30-9pm (4 week)

This course will be completed using acrylic paints and the time will be divided appropriately between lecture and color theory exercises.  The subject matter will be predominantly still lives, designed differently for each lesson and will give each student time for ample color mixing and exploration.  $145 (materials included).

Abstract Painting

Wednesdays, Feb 22-April 4, 6:30-9pm (7 week)
This oil painting course will be an exploratory course into the realm of abstraction.  The class will move from semi-abstraction into full abstraction. Explore and discuss composition, value pattern, color harmony, surface quality, and paint application in attempts to create a cohesive visual language.  All skill levels and abilities are welcome to join in the exploration process.   $245 (materials included).

Paper Vessels

Experience paper on a whole new level as we create vessels from paper pulp and newly formed sheets of paper. Also learn about paper casting and pulp painting.        $75 (materials included)

Kids age 8 and up will explore making pottery using balloons as molds.  Create animals, monster creatures, piggy banks, or whatever your imagination can come up with! $115 (included materials).

Clay Creatures

Early Release Mondays, Feb 13th and 27th,  2-4pm (2 week)

This short hand-building course will focus on small hand-built sculptures.  Students will build small creatures out of pinch pots. For youth ages 8 and up. $50 (included materials).

Beginning/Intermediate Wheel

Students will learn basic wheel throwing techniques such as wedging, centering, and throwing bowls, cups, and vase forms. In Int Wheel, students can focus on the balance of shape and trimming. (includes materials and additional open studio sessions during the course)

Hand built Dishes

Learn to build casserole dishes, soap dishes, platters, or other hand building projects.  All skill levels are welcome to attend. $155 (includes materials and additional open studio sessions during the course)

Sculptural Hand building

This course will use coil, and pinch techniques to build medium abstract or representational sculptures.  The focus of this class will be on building good construction skills to bring our ideas to life.  All skill levels are welcome to attend. $155 (includes materials and additional open studio sessions during the course)

Teapots!

Thursday Feb 9th, 6-9pm and Sunday, Feb 12th 2-4pm

Students will learn the basic skills to assemble a teapot.  Instruction will include placement of spout, handles, lids, as well as aesthetics vs. function in the body of the piece.  Students should be comfortable throwing on the wheel. $65

Baskets with Misty Ostrowski
Thursday Feb 23rd, 6-9pm and Sunday, Feb 26th, 2-4pm
Get ready for Spring!  Students will throw and assemble clay baskets.  This course will focus on negative space in 3-dimensional forms, and work on handle-making skills on a larger scale.  Baskets can be hand-built or thrown, and students should have previous experience working with clay. $65

Musical Junk Day

Thanks to financial support from Friends of Recycling, the Canvas is offering an opportunity for aspiring repurpose artists of all ages to make trash musical!  Bring supplies to share, and come with an open mind.  Let’s make noise!

Family Light Painting
Saturday, February 25th, 10:30am-Noon

Slow down that shutter speed and embrace the darkness! Come to a blacked out Canvas studio to create light paintings in photographs. Bring flashlights, leds, anything that makes light. We’ll have a camera and email you your work or bring your own camera and we’ll try our darndest to figure it out!      $ donations accepted
