Symphony Showcase Sneak Peak
Friday, March 4th, 7:30-8:15pm
Right after Gallery Walk come hear a free preview of the next Juneau Symphony concert, the Symphony Showcase. The Symphony musicians will share their favorite chamber music including brass fanfares, violin duets, flute trios and a trombone solo. Pie in the Sky will be open with delicious treats to eat as you enjoy the music. Admission is free, donations are welcome. www.juneausymphony.org

The Canvas and the AWARE Shelter collaborate to offer a 2-part spoken word and visual arts workshop for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Perseverance Theatre Costumed Figure Drawing
Monday, March 7th, 6-8pm
Costume Designer Meg Zeder will open this class with a 15 minute talk about the joy of clothing and her work designing costumes for The Importance of Being Ernest. Live models will wear costumes from the production and artist Averyl Veliz will be available to offer drawing suggestions after the talk to anyone who wishes to sketch costumed models. Bring your drawing pad and join us for an evening of theatrically inspired drawing. www.perservenacetheatre.org

Paint a Skateboard
Sunday, March 13th, 1-4:30pm
The Canvas collaborates with Sequence Boardshop to host an afternoon workshop on painting skateboards. Hand paint using acrylic or cut stencils for spray painting designs. Patrick Van Pool, of Sequence, and Rico Worl, local artist, will provide instruction and inspiration to turn a blank board into your own masterpiece. Please call to register. $15. Fee includes used skateboard to paint. New skateboards available for purchase.

Come to The Canvas every Third Friday of the month for a Poetry Slam and Open Mic. Bring your poems and compete for $25 prize money! Or sign up for Open Mic and recite/sing/do that hula hoop routine you've been practicing.
Sign-up starts @ 6:00pm, show starts at 6:30. Also featuring DJ Manu on the turntables. Suggested donation $5.

Haiku Stand
Tuesdays, Noon-1pm
Poetry hits the streets as Christy NaMee Eriksen sets up a Haiku Stand at the Canvas from 12-1pm on Tuesdays. On the street outside, or inside If it's especially chilly (or if she's not wearing sensible shoes). Stop by on your lunch hour for an instant, customized poem on a topic of your choice! Haiku are Pay-as-you-can, suggested donation $5.75 (get it? Haiku? 5-7-5!).
