My work has undoubtedly gravitated towards the depiction of architectural and natural spaces. This tendency can only be explained by the fact that they are all places I know personally from real life experiences-in other words my work is inspiration by day to day life. More specifically, it is cultivated from an existence open to a physical world that allows for my life to be influenced by all things: what city I live in, the streets I walk, the buildings I pass, the people I know and don’t know, the time of day, the changing seasons, etc. When aware and present enough, all affect me differently that causes me to move, feel and think in a way specific to that time and place. On rare occasions, all sensations that I am capable of feeling seem to coalesce in a single and inexplicable instant that I can only describe as a moment of clarity and profound timelessness. This is my experience of inspiration that drives me to react to life by painting. However, each painting is not the immediate result of such events, for they are only the memory of the feeling manifested in the images I choose and those that follow. Monica Daugherty
