To register for classes, call 907-586-1750 or email your name, classes of interest and phone number to: info@canvasarts.org. Full payment must be made at the time of registration. Notice of withdrawal must be received no later than 7 days prior to the first day of class. No refunds will be given after that time. Credit will not be given for missed classes.

Open Glaze

If you’ve created a clay piece in one of our classes, stop in for open glazing. We now offer three days and times to choose from!  No additional cost;  just drop in and finish your piece.  Feel free to call if you have questions.  Cost included with class fees.

 

Open Pottery Studio

Buy a punch-card for 5 visits to the pottery studio. Includes clay, bisque firing, glazes and glaze firing. $100 (5 open studio visits), or $25 per single visit. For experienced potters. *Must sign ip in advance to reserve wheel time.

 

3-week Introduction to Wheel Throwing

The Canvas is offering a shorter class for folks who have always wanted to try the potter’s wheel but aren’t ready to make a 6 week commitment until they’re sure they like it. People who have never worked in clay are welcome. You will learn the basics of centering and throwing a cylinder (think mugs and bowls )and how to glaze your piece(s). The class fee includes instruction, additional open studio time, clay, glazing and firing.

Try the Wheel (single session)

If you can’t fit a multi-week class into your schedule, but you’ve been wanting to try the potter’s wheel, this is your chance! In this 3 hour, one time class, learn the basics of centering and shaping on the wheel. Choose one piece to glaze and fire, if you like.
Recommended for ages 14 and up.

This is your opportunity to create hand built gifts of pottery for the holiday season.  Focus on a grand work of art, or produce a series of smaller pieces.  Instructor Joyce Payne will provide examples of hand built vases, stacking cups, platters and more.  Several methods of construction will be introduced including slab, coil, extruded forms, and press mold in addition to decorating and glazing methods. The class fee includes instruction, clay, glazing and firing.  Tools provided.

6-week Beginning Wheel Throwing

Beginning wheel throwing classes are for people who have never worked with clay or have previously taken a class way back when. You will learn basic wheel skills including centering, throwing, and trimming; as well as making handles, decorating options and glazing. This class will make forms that are variations of the cylinder such as mugs, vases, and bowls.
